Half term activities - Autumn 2024

If you’re looking for ideas to help you and your family stay active and entertained during the autumn half term, there's lots of different activities and events taking place across Herefordshire.

Autumn celebration event at Hereford Community Farm, Ashley Farm Buildings, Grafton Lane, Hereford: Thursday 31st October, 11am - 3pm (free)
Activities will include a drop in pottery workshop, spooktacular halloween crafts and activities and a display from Wye Valley Falconry + Hereford Cycle Hub will be running a Dr. Bike session so bring your bike and get it checked for free! Please note there will be no farm animals on site. 

 

Berrington Hall National Trust: October half term: 26th October - 3rd November. Admission fee applies + £3 per trail (prize included) + £1 per potion 
Explore the children's play area or if you're feeling adventurous head to the den building area! Half term activities include a murder mystery trail and potion making workshop. Visit the website for more details. 

 

Brockhampton National Trust: October half term: 26th October - 3rd November. Admission fee applies + £3 per child  for the mysterious missing pumpkins trail (prize included)
Explore the mysterious missing pumpkins trail through the orchards, enjoy hallowtide celebrations in the manor house or get crafting in the kitchen. 

 

Ceramics Festival Hereford, Hereford City Centre and CUP Ceramics Studio: Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd November (free and ‘pay what you can’)
Activities include studio demonstrations, workshops and family art trail. Find out more on the Ceramics fest website.  

 

Croft Castle National Trust: October half term: 26th October - 3 November. Admission fee applies + £3 per trail (prize included)
Explore the castle and gardens, on the children's paranormal investigator's trail or challenge your friends and family to a broomstick race! 

 

Half term crafts at Hereford Interim Library, Hereford Town Hall: Saturday 26th - Saturday 2nd November (check opening hours) (free)
Come along this half-term to our new interim library at Hereford Town Hall and enjoy free autumnal crafting fun! We'll be making pine cone owls, origami bookmarks and crowns with leaves of glorious autumn colours! There is no need to book, just drop-in! All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

 

Half Term Halloween Fun Days, Madley Environmental Study Centre, Madley: Tues 29th & Thur 31st October. Sessions are morning or afternoon 10am-12pm or 1.30pm-3.30pm (£10 per child per session – adults free)

Make puppets, potions and spooky spiders then follow the clues for the creepy Halloween trail!

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 3-12 years. Includes some sweet treats.

Halo Half Term Activities:  Various locations, 28th October – 3rd November (various prices)

A chance to meet and make friends, discover new interests, explore and try new sports or activities as well as stay fit and healthy. There’s something for everyone, from the intensive learn to swim programme, to badminton, JumpINGym and much more. View the full range of activities on offer on the Halo website.

 

Haunted Hereford FREE Drama Session, 2Faced Dance Company, Centre for Movement, Gaol St, Hereford: Monday 28th October 10am -2pm (free) 
A fun Halloween themed workshop for 8-18 year olds. Free to attend. Spaces are limited so please book online in advance. Bring a packed lunch. 

 

Herefordshire’s Family Festival, 2024, The Courtyard, Hereford: Wednesday 30th October (includes some free activities – for more information please visit the Courtyard website)

The day will include a host of Circus themed performances, workshops and activities for families to get involved in. The free and low-cost drop-in activities include Biscuit Decorating, Dress Up Corner, Circus Skills, Balloon Modelling, and Face Painting.

Also on offer are a range of low-cost ticketed events and a performance from the Courtyard's resident orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan. Tickets for the concert at £7 adults/£5 for children. 

 

Kids Kitchen Herefordshire, Barons Cross Community Centre, Leominster: Weds 30th October, 10.30am -12.30pm (Free)

Join Kids Kitchen to cook and eat a delicious and healthy lunch together! Everyone is welcome and its FREE!

Ledbury Poetry Autumn Adventures Day: Thursday 31st October, 10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm (free but please book a place) 
Animal magic activities for children aged 5-14 and autumn nature crafts suitable for children aged 4 -10 years old. 

 

Newton Court Orchard Pumpkin Hunt, Newton Court, Leominster: Monday 28th  October - Sunday 3rd November 9am to 4.30pm/  3.30pm on Sundays (free)

There are a number of pumpkins hidden in the orchard, on each of which is a letter.  Pick up your clue sheet from the front desk in the cafe, head to the orchard, write down the letters and unscramble them to find the mystery word.

 

Plant a bulb at Herefordshire Libraries: throughout half term, check opening times for your local library (free)
Come along and join in with our FREE bulb planting activity this half term! Call in to any of our libraries to collect your pot and ask at the counter for your bulb. Pop it in some compost and await the glorious Spring blooms! Children must be supervised by an appropriate adult.

 

Sealegs Puppet Theatre at Hereford Interim Library, Hereford Town Hall: Friday 1st November 10.30am / 12.30pm (£6 for one adult + 1 child, additional family members £1.50 each, babies 12 months or younger FREE) 

A magic and uplifting experience for the whole family. Open your mind and step inside Edward Lear's brilliantly anarchic world of nonsense rhymes and limericks. Embrace the silliness, dive into a sea of words, an absurd alphabet soup of poppycock and gobbledygook... 

 

Spooky Tales – Performed by Hereford College of Arts at the Black and White House Museum, Hereford: Tuesday 29th October – Thursday 31st October, 10.30am, 11am, 11.30am, 1pm, 2pm: (free with admission to the museum, £3.50 for adults and free for under 16’s and students)

For those brave enough to face a chilling story, join us for live performances of Spooky Tales! Immerse yourself in an eerie and spine-chilling performance from Hereford’s haunted past created by Students from Hereford College of Arts. With six performances each day, there's plenty of opportunity to catch a haunting tale that will leave you looking over your shoulder. Suitable for all ages, no booking necessary.

 

The Weird Garden Trail, The Weir Garden National Trust: 26th October - 2nd November (admission cost applies)
Find the weird halloween themed stations around the garden this half term.

 

Wildplay at Hereford Interim Library at the Town Hall, Hereford: Weds 30th October 1pm-3pm (Free)
Free, seasonal crafts and activities with the Wildplay team. No booking required. All children must be accompanied by a parent/carer.

 

Witches’ Trail, A Family Friendly Halloween Adventure, The Black and White House Museum, Hereford: 26th October – 3 November (excluding 28th October) (free with admission to the museum, £3.50 for adults and free for under 16’s and students)

The Black and White House Museum invites you to embark on the Witches’ Trail. Explore the museum, solve clues, and discover hidden witches while learning the eerie secrets of Hereford’s Haunted past. Come dressed in your favourite Hallooween costume for a fun filled adventure the whole family will love! With spooky experiences around every corner, the trail is sure to delight both adults and children. Suitable for all ages, no booking necessary.

 

WOW: family activity sessions to support the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of families during the cost of living crisis. All events include free food and drink and families will be able to access information and advice to support them around the cost of living. Funded by the Household Support Fund.
