Herefordshire's communities are made up of so many fantastic people who provide services, groups, activities and support for other residents. This has never been more evident, than during the coronavirus pandemic, where people have gone above and beyond to help and support their neighbours and communities.
Are you interested in helping people in your local community remain healthy, safe and independent for longer? Why not become a Talk Community Hub?
Talk Community Hubs are delivered by the community, for the community and form part of a valuable countywide network, helping connect residents with the support, services, groups and activities they may need, within their local area or across the county.
A Talk Community Hub is somewhere...
- That brings people together, builds friendships and helps to further strengthen local communities
- To access information and find available services, groups and activities to support wellbeing and independence
- New ideas and activities can be developed, to help connect more residents to their local communities and services
A Talk Community Hub can be developed alongside existing community settings, such as village halls, community pubs, organisations, shops or centres, which are already at the heart of the local community, or they can be something completely new. Herefordshire Council can provide support to nurture and further develop these settings, to help meet the needs of the local community and enable residents to better look after their own health and wellbeing.
It might be that you already offer daily activities, a weekly coffee morning or monthly lunch club within your community, in which case being a Talk Community Hub could enhance this further, by incorporating more elements to help the people you support.
A hub would normally be run by volunteers from the local community, unless an organisation is responsible for the community setting and therefore employs paid staff. The volunteers or staff would be trained to provide access to a wide range of wellbeing related information, advice and signposting to services, groups and activities, both within the local community and across the county, to support people to live well and remain independent.

If you were to become a Talk Community Hub, it would provide a number of additional benefits, including:
- Potential funding of up to £2,500 to set up and develop your hub
- Free training for volunteers or staff (with access to further training opportunities)
- Free additional promotion via Talk Community Directory, which is used by over 49,000 people a year (1 January 2022 - 31 December 2022)
- Help to make connections to support your hub and local community
- The recognition of being a hub can help support further growth and sustainability

There is no ‘one size fits all’ model for the Talk Community Hubs, as they’re being developed to meet the individual needs of different communities, therefore each hub will be unique to its community.
