Help with essential household items

If you need assistance to replace damaged household items or purchase essential clothing, there are a number of organisations offering grants and funding. If you need help, have any queries, or can’t find what you’re looking for there, please email: householdsupportfund@herefordshire.gov.uk

Herefordshire Community Foundation can help with essential white goods as well as boiler services/repairs. Referrals MUST be made online by agencies only.

Hereford Food Bank can help with slow cookers, microwaves and kettles. Agency referrals only.

NILS is a local registered charity, which is currently able to offer grants to help local people in acute financial need, purchase essential items such as white goods and furniture. They can also support with minor car repairs/MOTs. Please note that you must be referred by a professional or anyone supporting you in an official capacity.

The Living Room (Ethos ) can help support those who live in Hereford city and surrounding areas. They can support with emergency costs, and essentials such as clothes, bedding, and food parcels. They can also support with appliances that need updating to save energy and new household items. Ethos accepts self-referrals and referrals from agencies.

If you need assistance to replace or purchase essential household items, there are lots of organisations offering grants and funding.

Family Action provide welfare grants for essential personal and household items, such as replacing a broken washing machine, for individuals and families on low incomes or benefits. Please note there is an eligibility criteria in place and you must be referred by a recognised agency or charity.

Friends of the Elderly provide small grants for older people to help purchase essential household items, such as washing machines, fridges and furniture or cover essential living costs, including clothing, food and medicine. Please note there is an eligibility criteria in place and you must be referred by a recognised referral agent.

Glasspool Charity Trust offer an Essential Living Fund, which provides small grants to help with essential clothing and household items, such as baby equipment and clothing, school uniforms, cookers, fridges, freezers, washing machines and furniture.  Please note that you must be referred by a recognised agency or charity.

Herefordshire Reuse and Recycling Organisation is a local initiative which works with charities, schools and social workers to provide household items, such as furniture, along with children’s bikes, toys, games and DVDs, to help those in need across the county.

Herefordshire Council can offer emergency welfare support to eligible local residents, which can help with providing quality, second-hand goods, food or vouchers, along with referrals to other support organisations.
