Saturday 24 August marks Ukrainian Independence Day.

This year’s celebrations are especially meaningful as they reflect not only the pride of a nation but also the global support for Ukraine’s right to self-governance. Across the world, Ukrainians and supporters of Ukraine are coming together to commemorate this day with cultural events, parades, and moments of reflection.

In Herefordshire, organisations and partners have planned several events, including a Ukrainian-themed carnival lorry at the Ledbury Carnival on Monday 26 August.

Here is what's on:

Decorations workshop for the carnival

Come and make decorations for the carnival lorry. Everyone welcome, especially Ukrainians.

Ukraine Independence Day Celebratory Walk

The walk from Cathedral to St Peter’s Church will be lively and full of music, songs, and unity. Bring your national flags and cheerful spirits!

  • 24 August at 12pm
  • Starting at Hereford Cathedral

Prayers, reflections, tea, coffee, and refreshments

Bring your friends and family and join us in promoting solidarity.

  • 24 August at 1pm
  • St Peter's Church, Hereford

Ledbury Carnival

A parade through Ledbury to the sound of Ukrainian songs, supported by the Ukrainian Choir.

  • 26 August 12pm-1pm
  • Starts at Rugby Club on Ross Road
